I·PARK1: Tranforming Waste to Energy While Promoting Green Tourism
On any typical day, 11,000 tonnes of municipal solid waste (MSW) is landfilled in Hong Kong. In order for Hong Kong to reach net-zero, more drastic measures are needed in addition to waste reduction and active recycling and reuse of waste.
In comes I·PARK1, situated in Shek Kwu Chau, estimated to have the capacity to transform 3,000 tonnes of MSW into energy a day. By the time when I·PARK1 commences operation in 2025, green tourism initiatives will also be developed in the vicinity to benefit the local community, said Mr Wong Kam-sing, Secretary for the Environment, in his recent Facebook post.
What green tourism activities would you like to see? Alternatively, what other innovative technologies do you think Hong Kong should integrate to accelerate its waste reduction and climate actions?
