Coldplay and BMW Join Hands to Deliver Carbon-Neutral Concert
Would you be interested in dancing to a kinetic floor that generates clean energy and getting discounts for travelling to a concert in low-carbon ways? Then you would not want to miss UK band Coldplay's upcoming Music Of The Spheres 2022 global tour.
For their global tour kick-starting in Costa Rica in March next year, Coldplay plans to hold their concerts at stadiums or venues fitted with solar panels, as well as kinetic floors and bikes for fans to generate energy. The energy will then be stored in the world's first-ever mobile rechargeable show battery, developed in partnership with BMW, using the old batteries from the carmaker's old BMW i3 electric cars.
Coldplay will also be encouraging fans to travel to their concerts via low-carbon means by giving out discounts at the venue. Not only will water be provided for free to eliminate the use of single-use plastic beverage bottles, but the merchandise will be sustainably and ethically sourced.
But for the band and its crew to travel to all the destinations, carbon emissions will naturally occur. The band therefore have decided to pay a surcharge to use Sustainable Aviation Fuel, and use EVs for ground transportation whenever possible.
Transparency and accountability matters, of course. Which is why Coldplay will be collaborating with researchers and climate experts at Imperial College London’s Grantham Institute of Climate Change and the Environment, to ensure that the impact of the concert tour will be tracked and monitored to reflect its positive and negative impact on the planet.
